This
final lesson will translate into a summative assessment for the unit. After the poster presentations, the
teacher will inform the students that they will now have the opportunity to write
their own verse to the song and that they should put a lot of effort into it.
They will have the opportunity to start in class, but will be asked to finish
it for homework. The teacher will tell the students that this will serve as a
way for the teacher to assess how much of the information they understood from
the whole unit on Native Americans and that this should be reflected in their
writing. The teacher will show the students the two essential questions that
have been guiding the lessons and that the students should answer these
questions through writing their additional verse to the song. The two essential
questions are as follows:
Why is there conflict among people and what are its effects?
How are stereotypes formed?
Students will be given the opportunity to share these verses with their classmates, but will not be required to. If they don’t feel comfortable performing in front of the class, they iwill be allowed to simply turn in their writing to be assessed.
